How doing a nail detox can give your healthier nails
How doing a nail detox can give your healthier nails. We all love getting our nails done. But the constant acrylics, gels and even regular manicures can cause our nails to become brittle and weak.
So, with many of our beloved nail salons closed, this is the perfect time to get your nails a bit of a detox. Here’s our tips on how you can detox your nails in around 10 days.
Remove Old Polish
First thing’s first. You need to remove any old or chipped nail polish. However, many polish removers are acetone-based, which can dehydrate your nails and make them brittle.
Instead, opt for a non-acetone-based nail polish remover. After removing your old polish, it’s time to soak. Restore some much-needed moisture by soaking your fingers in warm water for about 15 minutes ever night.
Care For Cuticles
A fact that some of us tend to forget is that moisturising your cuticles is important to overall nail health. After their daily soak, dry off your nails and massage some cuticle serum into them. Once the serum is fully absorbed, you want to seal that moisture in.
Apply a thick moisturising cream to your nails and leave on overnight. This will give it time to get into the nail and keep them hydrated.
A good product to use is Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve. This will form a protective barrier around your hands and nails while you sleep.
Apply Extra Strength Solution
By the next morning, your nails should be dry and refreshed. Quickly give them a wash and, instead of using nail polish, use a nail strengthening treatment.
Apply it to your nails, avoiding the cuticle area, every other day for a week. Once the week is up, remove the treatment with a non-acetone polish remover and start the regimen again.
Protect Your Nails
Now that your nails are on their path to recovery, it’s time to protect all the work you’ve just done. Try to keep your hands out of water for as long as possible.
When washing dishes or doing gardening, wear gloves. Treat your nails like jewels, not tools to ensure that they are happy and healthy.
It’s also important to keep your nail edges smooth with a good file to help them grow strong and long.
